There is something about being near the sea that changes the pace of the day.
The sound of water, the breeze, the movement of the waves, and that feeling of having a little more space around you. It is something many of us recognise from weekends by the coast, island holidays, and the places we return to when we want to slow down.
That feeling became the starting point for our newest design, Ombak.
Named after the Malay word for wave, Ombak is inspired by the natural rhythm of the ocean and the beauty of Malaysia’s coastlines.
The print is made up of flowing lines and organic movement that echo the way water shifts and curls as waves move towards the shore. Rich colour gives the pattern a stronger presence, while the repeated forms keep it easy and natural to wear.
For us, Ombak feels relaxed without being too casual.
It is a print made for holidays, but not only for holidays.
From the Coast to Everyday Life
Flowing lines and organic movement give Ombak its distinctive wave-inspired rhythm.
When we started thinking about Ombak, we wanted the print to carry the feeling of being by the water without making it feel like something you could only wear at a resort.
The result is a design that can move between different parts of your wardrobe quite easily.
You might wear an Ombak dress on a beach holiday, but you could also wear it out for lunch back in Kuala Lumpur. The men’s shirts work for a relaxed weekend, but can just as easily be styled for dinner or a casual office day.
That versatility matters to us.
We want batik to be something you reach for because it fits into your life, not something you save at the back of your wardrobe until the right occasion comes along.
Ombak was created with that idea in mind.
One Print, Different Ways to Wear It
From shirts and dresses to relaxed separates, Ombak was designed to move easily between holidays and everyday life.
One of the things we like most about Ombak is seeing how differently the same print feels depending on the product, colourway, and material.
For men, the collection includes both a long sleeve shirt and a short sleeve shirt. The long sleeve version gives the print a slightly more polished feel and can move easily between work, dinner and special occasions. The short sleeve shirt is more relaxed, making it an easy choice for weekends, holidays and warmer days.
With Onyx Ombak, we are also introducing a new material to the collection. It gives the print a different look and feel, adding more depth to the darker colourway while keeping the flowing movement that defines Ombak. It is a small change, but one that makes the same design feel noticeably different when worn.
For women, Ombak appears across several Batik Boutique silhouettes, including one completely new addition.
The Tie Front Kimono keeps the styling relaxed and flexible. Wear it over a simple top and trousers in the city, or layer it over resort wear when you are away.
The Ayaz Dress gives the print a softer, more feminine shape, while the Long Shirt Dress is a new silhouette we are introducing with Ombak. It has an easy, relaxed shape that feels polished without being too formal, making it suitable for work, weekends, or travel.
The Wide Leg Pants are perhaps one of the easiest ways to bring Ombak into an everyday wardrobe. Pair them with something simple and let the movement of the print do the rest.
What we like about this collection is that the same print can take on a completely different personality depending on how it is cut, styled, and worn. That gives Ombak room to feel relaxed, polished, bold or understated, while still staying recognisably part of the same story.

Ombak also introduces something new for Batik Boutique.
Our new bandana brings the print into a smaller, versatile accessory that can be styled in different ways.
